Oil Spill in Singapore

The damage on the Malaysian ship is seen after a collision with a bulk carrier in the waters between Malaysia and Singapore on Tuesday in Singapore.
Oil spilled from a tanker collision offshore Singapore reached a naval base but has so far spared the rest of the city-state's coast. The oil slick has not affected Singapore's coastlines. Barrels of lightcrude oil spilled from the Malaysian-registered tanker MT Bunga Kelana 3 after it collided with th St.Vincent's and the Grenadines-registered bulk carrier MV Waily early Tuesday in the Singapore Strait about eight miles Southeast of Singapore's east cost. Small patches of oil and sheen were sighted at Chang Naval Base. If oil is spilled along the coastal shore or dumped where it can drain into rivers, fish and other aquatic animals can suffer long term illness, birth defects and with direct exposure they can often die. Birds are affected by oil spills as well as fish, and the oil travels up the food chain.
